Mr. Gem Tshering, Founder & CEO

Gem was a guide and trip leader for National Geographic Expeditions (GeoEx), USA. While guiding for Geoex, Gem met a couple- Mr. Thomas L. Brunner and Mrs. Kathleen N. Brunner from Massachusetts, USA and they invited him to go to a college in the US where he graduated with an MBA degree in 1995. Thereafter, Gem  returned to Bhutan and started working for various organizations- United Nations, World Wildlife Fund, Save the Children-USA, in corporate sector and in consulting before he founded Gems Bhutan Travels. As being a beneficiary of tourism sector, Gem fully understands the needs of clients when they visit Bhutan and ensures they have a trip of their life time.

Mr.  Pelden, Founder & Director

Pelden has obtained his monastic education at an early age. However, he left it to pursue western education and graduated with a high school diploma. Thereafter, he attended international guiding courses and continued as a tour guide and tour leader with passion for more than a decade. Because of his compassionate and friendly, Pelden has obtained the name as Gandhi from his friends. He has traveled far and wide within and outside Bhutan and loves showing Bhutan to our clients.

Ms.  Karma Dema, Finance Manager

Karma Dema joined Gems Bhutan Travels (GBT) in 2013 and takes care of all financial matters of the company. She has a knack for numbers and ensures books of accounts are transparent and taxes are filed on time. Karma has a Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) from Gaeddug College of Business, Bhutan.


Ms. Sherab Zangmo, Chief Guide

Sherab joined GBT in 2015 as the Chief Guide. She is a TCB certified tour guide and has been working for the tourism industry for the last 10 years and has led many international groups and traveled widely to far flung corners of Bhutan. Sherab has a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications degree from a college in India.  Apart from guiding, she loves reading and writing.

Ms.  Rinchen Yangzom,  Marketing Manager

Rinchen Yangzom joined GBT in 2015 and looks after marketing aspects of the company. She ensures that company has steady growth of new clients as well as repeat clients. She has passion for details and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Royal Thimphu College.


Ms. Sonam Pelden, Administrative Officer

Sonam is responsible for ticketing, visa, permits, hotel  reservation and other logistical arrangements for GBT. With more than five year experiences in the profession, she can handle all logistics with precision and accuracy. Sonam holds a diploma in Arts and has a knack for precision and meeting deadlines. She joined the company in October 2013.

Mr. Tashi Dhendup, Field Operations Manager

Looks after the field operations at GBT since 2015. Tashi has more than six years experience in tourism and ensures that all logistics in the fields are well planned. He has a Bachelor of Computer Applications from an Indian college. He is a TCB certified and licensed tour guide as well is a Japanese language guide. Tashi loves traveling with guests and showing them the best of Bhutan.

Mr. Longchula, Sr. Guide (Birding and Botany)

A TCB certified guide, Longchula specializes in birding and botany. He has over 15 years experience in tour guiding and has extensively traveled within Bhutan. He joined GBT in 2016 and brings with him a vast experience on tour guiding in Bhutan.


Mr. Dorji, Driver

A high school graduate with more than 10 years experience in driving, Dorji ensures that guests are in a safe hand at all times. He joined GBT in early 2013. He is a certified and licensed driver. With his caring nature, he is always loved by our guests.


Mr. Ugyen Dorji, Driver

A certified and licensed driver, Ugyen Dorji has been chauffeuring guests throughout Bhutan. His humbleness and sense of duty is impeccable. He has completed a higher secondary schooling and joined GBT in January 2014.


We remain a lean, mean, and malleable team. We work very closely with the most reliable, experienced, and professional guides as well as with transport hiring agencies, hotels, and other tourism stakeholders. Networking is our forte.
